I found this poem in an old, old, old notebook. It must be from high school at the earliest. Possibly middle school. Thought it was nice and I don't remember anything about writing it.
"play."
she tripped, and
suddenly
it seemed the stars,
which she had so carefully
gathered,
fell;
spilled out and
assembled
on the grass.
she felt
her scraped knee
with one hand
and tried
to stop
them escaping
with the other
but many
had already got away.
as she began to
cry,
her knee began to
sting,
and she
watched them fly
with blurry eyes.
it wasn't so much
the pain, nor
the loss;
she mostly cried 'cause
it was unexpected.
but then the moon
came down with
patience in his
eyes;
he picked her up
and rocked her
in the cradle crescent
of his arms.
so she stopped crying,
and when she fell asleep
again,
he placed her on the grass
and went
away;
the stars began to turn
the hour wheel
and sang
about another day
where she could
play again.
